Greatness in adversity, a new perspective

Exodus 14:21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided.

Im unable to accomplish this, how will I over come my circumstances? Why do we go through the things we go through? Many of us ask ourselves these types of questions everyday. Im not sure why exactly things happen the way they do, and I don’t believe any one really knows except God but what I do know is that through it all God will always use the situation to glorify Himself and the show us what we are really capable of.

Problem: One of my biggest concerns in the world today is that the “I CAN” generation has died out and the “I CANT” generation has grown to populate this world. What can I possibly mean by this? Simple as I look around and the examine the world I see a lot more people quitting than accomplishing. Quitting school, quitting on their marriages, quitting on their kids, quitting on their abilities quitting on them selves. Sometimes we limit ourselves to the point that even before we try something we quit and then after a few attempts and not seeing immediate results we quit. This creates a huge dilemma for me because if the word of God is true and living and it clearly states I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me, then why do we constantly put limits on God? The biggest issue for many of us is that we replace the word ALL for the word SOME. We still believe in God but we just dont always believe that he can come through on ALL things. I saw the movie Soul Surfer last night something very interesting occurred in the movie that I would like to share. In the movie they were showing images super zoomed in and asked the students what they were looking at, and the students would guess and ultimately guess wrong but then the teacher zoomed out and everything was clear and the knew what they were looking out. Sometimes we dont see, understand or comprehend what we are capable because of our perspective. One huge factor to know is that our perspective and Gods perspective are totally different. Our Perspective says we can’t but Gods says you can do ALL things, Our perspective says we are defeated but Gods says your are more than conquerors, Our perspective says we are weak and scared to take risks but Gods says Have I not commanded you be strong and courageous! its time to change our perspective.

SOLUTION: I started off this blog with a very popular scripture in Exodus. In fact it is one of the greatest miracles recorded done by someone not named Jesus. The crazy part of this is that if you were to go back a few years before that event occurred and asked Moses to part a sea he probably would have responded with a yea ummm, sure in a minute (Sarcasm) You see most of us wont really know what we are capable of until we are challenged and put under adversity. When faced with a challenge Moses put his total trust in God and God moved and went beyond Moses abilities. So why is it that when we are faced with adversity we run from God and get further from him? We are surrounded by so many who say “I CANT” that we fail to realize that “WE CAN”. Lets put our abilities, relationships, issues and problems in his hands and TRUST that he is able. When you trust God in adversity and understand that he is greater than the things you think your incapable of accomplishing your giving Him a feeding ground to pull greatness out of you, Greatness in adversity. Lets not limit ourselves but push ourselves farther than we think we can go. A new Perspective.

The Romans Road

Below is a portion of a Evangelism paper I recently wrote, I feel the words and scriptures are very powerful so I just had to share, enjoy…

Evangelistic Methods  “The Romans Road”

To be completely honest I had not heard of the phrase or term “The Romans Road” until I began to research the topic for my school paper. Do not get me wrong I have read these verses many times but I did not know that there was a evangelistic method to applying these verses to an unbeliever. It’s pretty simple, the first verse found on the Romans road was Romans 3:23“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”Sadly many unbelievers view Christians as these perfect people with high moral standards that are impossible to live up to but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Romans 3:23 clearly states that we have all sinned and fallen short God’s glory and it is this simple fact by which Christ came to this world to die for us. But why did he die for us? Is sin as bad as it is made out to be? In order to be saved we have to be aware of the consequences of our actions. Romans 6:23 (the second scripture on the Romans road) “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” The price for OUR sin is death; this is why Jesus in pursuit of saving us had to pay the price of sin so that we may inherit the gift of God, which is eternal life. Still don’t believe me? Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Notice the word “still”; Jesus’ gift of eternal life was not given to us after we accepted him but while we were “still sinners” Christ died for us. It’s not whether or not God has the gift of eternal life for us but whether or not we are ready to receive it. But how do we receive this gift? Romans 10:9, “that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”  A simple confession that’s all it takes. Every thing the enemy offers comes at a cost but what God has to offer is completely free. Some religions are limited to a certain type of person but what God has to offer is for all. Romans 10:13 “for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Salvation is open and available to ALL who call upon his name. And once we find this faith in Christ Romans 5:1 has this wonderful message, “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Share this with an unbeliever and just let the scriptures work it’s way into their heart. Think about that person you have been wanting to share the Gospel with and share this with them it can be a friend, family member, co-worker or a stranger do not limit what God can do, He will amaze you if you give him the opportunity. Romans 8:38-39 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Few are Chosen

Yesterday Concluded the Tabernacle Series “Gods Dwelling Place” it was so fun to be able to host and interact with the church and all the new people. I had my moments when I went blank (it happens lol) but there was also some things that came to my mind while I was up there that really caught my attention which I did not get to elaborate on.

1 Peter 2:9 But you are a Chosen Generation, a Royal Priesthood an Holy Nation, a Peculiar people…

It is within these verses that we find 3 very important elements of the Christian walk. The Bible speaks a lot about being chosen, predestined and called. But who exactly is Chosen? Are we all Chosen? And if we aren’t Chosen how do we get to that point?

Matthew 22:14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.”

I liked to view this scripture and split it up into two different categories. We have the “Called” category and the “Chosen” Category. I believe we are ALL called ALL born with a purpose in this world. But how exactly is it possible for “ALL” of us to be called?

Jeremiah 1:5 says “ Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you;

You see before you were even born God knew you and he knew the purpose he set aside for you, No you were not an accident God knew exactly what he was doing when he created you.

Yes these verses are beautiful but all they imply is that God had intentions of making us, But are we ALL called to work for the Kingdom?

Romans 8:30 “Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called

Now finally we see Predestination and calling meet. Many are called but few are Chosen. You see in being born and stepping into your predestined life you activated a calling given to you by God. This is the “called” category. This is a place where many people get stuck. How is it possible for many to be called and few chosen? Its simple we all have a special calling over our lives but how many of us actually step into what he has called us to do? For those of you who have stepped into your calling you have achieved a great thing you now have graduated from the called category to the chosen category and with this achievement you have passed the first element from 1 Peter 2:9 “You are a Chosen generation” and are now equipped continue on.

The second element is becoming “A royal priesthood a holy nation”. Because of Jesus’ Blood we no longer have to sacrifice an animal to receive forgiveness but simply by calling on his name and receiving his Salvation we then step in to this Royal Priesthood. What we fail to acknowledge though is that as we step into this priesthood the duties of a priest are accompanied by it. One of the priest greatest duties in the tabernacle was to sacrifice. So in order to be a priest sacrifice is necessary. I am afraid though that a generation has risen this day in age that is afraid to sacrifice. In case you were wondering if you had to go out and find a animal to kill the answer is no, No you do not have go out and kill a goat; yes there are some sacrifices that God is going to require of you but they are of a different kind. For some it may be a friend or maybe a job that God is asking for you to give up but it is through these sacrifices that trust is developed. But why, why do we have to give up things we love, did not God give us these very things? The answer is yes he did give you these things but for just a moment in time. You see God is trying to take you from the stage of “not enough” to the stage of “just enough” to the stage of more than enough. One of the trickiest stages is “just enough” it can easily be confused with “more than enough”. Our comfort in where we currently are will confuse these two stages; it will make us think that where we are at is sufficient. God on the other hand has something way bigger for you! You see what God sees and what we see can sometimes be two different things. You know how many times the children of Israel tried to build in the wilderness but God would not allow it for he knew he had a promise land waiting. For some of you things may be going wrong left and right and it does not make sense to you. You are praying, you are fasting and you are studying your word but still nothing. Often God will cause discomfort in your life so that you do not build in the wilderness but await the promise he has for your life. Lets not settle for less but seek the abundance God has for us.

Once you past this point of realization from the text in 1 Peter 2:9 you step into the final stage, which is “A Peculiar people.” Another word for peculiar is strange. I found it very interesting that Peter would use such a word as peculiar. As I thought more and more about this verse I found this word to be very appropriate to describe Gods people. I do not know about you but I think for some it can be strange to see someone going through some many things yet still be able to hold up a smile in church. It is strange that even though we may not have received all the promises that God has for that we are still able to praise his name. And it is really strange that we are able to serve a God that we don’t see.

2 Corinthians 4:18 While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

You see everything we have here, everything we see goes and comes, its here one day and gone another. What you have to understand is that the grass withers and the flowers fade but the WORD of the Lord stands forever! Everything we see is temporary but Gods word and Gods love for us is forever. Some may not be able to comprehend that but we must continue to TRUST him, some may call us strange but we must continue to TRUST him. You have been Predestined, Called and Chosen for greatness. Lets go out there and be fishers of men and help save this world that so desperately needs us!

God Bless you

“Let us LOVE” Keys to successful leadership

“Let us LOVE”

Keys to successful leadership

Wow it’s been a while since I’ve written here. I have a lot on my mind now and sometimes when that happens I write. This time was different though and I could not ignore the word God was giving me. I’m not sure if this is for me or for someone else but I do know one thing and that’s when you have a word you dnt burry it you share it with the world.

Recently my Pastor wrote a verse on FB which he used in one of his recent messages . At first I was just reading it and then out nowhere I felt God speak to me through it.

Habakkuk 2:2 Then the Lord said to me, “Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others.

God has a message to give to this world but in order to give it we must not stay still but rather move. The lord said, Write my answer plainly on tablets so that a “runner” can carry the correct message to others. The word “runner” implies movement. Too many people have a word from God and do nothing with it (just like the talents that we heard of in the new testament). You see in order to reach the world we have to go reach out to them and that requires movement. Gods message cannot stay still, anything that is still is stagnant and anything that is stagnant is dead and God surely is not dead.

God said not only to write a message but to write the “correct” message and to go even further he commands for it to be written plainly. Not everyone is a bible scholar in order to reach the world our message has to be understood, don’t complicate things simplify them. Another thing I noticed was that the message God had written on the tablets had a significant amount of weight but yet was still able to be carried. Heavy enough to require strength but not too heavy for the runner to send it out. The biggest mistake we make today is giving the lords message with too much weight. But what is to much weight? The famous “repent or your going to hell” or “God cannot love sinners” phrases are great examples; it is because of phrases like that christians are regarded as being “judge-mental” it is simply impossible to carry a message with that much weight. Instead we need to lighten the load (not remove the load because I do believe there needs to be some type of weight) but it needs to be something we are able to carry. Even Gods message in the verses above had weight (ie tablets) but the runner was still able to go out and run with it. The key to this is love.

1 John 4: Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. 8 But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

Practicing love can help us lighten the message which God has given us. Love is not a suggestion it is a requirement given by God. Thus this message should not be given with anger but with love not with threats either but love. The greatest example we have is Jesus Christ himself, whom demonstrated a love so great that it would effect generations and generations to come. He didn’t write it on a tablet he did something better he nailed it to the cross and because of this we are now free to live, free to love and free to spread this message. Let’s go out and be lights in the midst of darkness; a city on a hill cannot be hidden. Leaders are known for their effectiveness in reaching others, with LOVE we can do this, let’s step out the shadows and save this world!

GO! let it be done

Word for the week: “GO! let it be done”

Matthew 8:13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that moment.

If you believe it is done it will be; Your husband, wife, job, house, provision, petition is there you just have to believe.

Jesus told the centurion to go, and as he went immediately the provision came. Sometimes you just have to walk and believe it will happen even though you don’t see it. The centurion left that place and when he went back he found his petition answered. Jesus said Go! Let it be done” But instead we get stuck in the same position; trapped in a box of our petitions wondering when the provision will come. In order for it to be done as Jesus said, we have to move on. Dwelling on the situation creates a burden. Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Allow Christ to take control of you situation and he will give you rest. Do not get stuck move forward and as you “go” you will see immediate results.

Trust God and walk, He is faithful! how will you respond to Christ?

Finding your Sabbath

Excerpts From last weekends message

Entitled: “Finding your Sabbath”

Exodus 20:8-10,

8) Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.(9) Six days you shall labor and do all your work, (10) but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God…(11) For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and RESTED the seventh day…

Life is full of responsibilities, distractions and things to do. Many of us have to juggle family, relationships, school, work and even church at the same time. We have so much to do but not enough time to get things done. Have you ever had a full night of sleep and yet still feel exhausted? it is because you body got sleep but your mind did not rest. Your mind was in turmoil all night, thinking about bills thinking about work thinking about issues going on in your life, and yes your body has recovered for another day full of new things to do but your mind has had no rest.

(Mark 2:27 And He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath).

The Sabbath was created for us as gift, not as burden that would make us feel trapped but as a gift, for the Lord understands that we need REST. On the Sabbath we were not to work but to sit back and think about what God has done in our lives, a time totally devoted to God. Even God being God created the earth in six days yet he still rested. He did this to teach us a lesson; not to get caught up in our work. I’m not just talking about things of the world either but things in your christian walk as well. Many times ministers get caught up in responsibilities, working, preparing lessons, messages, making sure everything is in tact in the church, evangelizing, going on mission trips, all this is great but as this is going on we never get a moment to rest. Many people are falling away now, not because of a lack of physical strength but because of lack of REST. Constantly helping the world but never have a second to help themselves. The enemy understanding these principles constantly takes advantage of us in our tired state, the moment we become exhausted he comes rushing in ready to attack us in this vulnerable state of mind. Today I encourage you to find your Sabbath not just within your week but within your day! separate some time to pray and read your word each day that passes. Take a moment and sit back not thinking about everyone and everything but simply resting in his presence. Remember, (Psalm 91:1) He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will REST in the shadow of the Almighty. Lets rest in our fathers shadow, God Bless you all.

Struggling to Prevail!

Word for the week: “Struggling to Prevail”

(Genesis 32:27-28 So He said to him, “What is your name?” He said, “Jacob.” 28 And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.”)

Today God reminds you that he has changed your NAME, in chapter 32 we see the calling over Jacob but as you read through the story you will notice that a change did not occur in him, even to the point that the author in Genesis still refers to him as Jacob. We see both the calling and the struggle. Two Chapters later The Lord tells him “Go up to Bethel and settle there, and build an altar there to God, who appeared to you” (Bethel: signifying the place of Covenant) this is were Jacob made his Decision to follow through on the promise that was placed over him. It’s time to step into your calling, become the man or woman God has called you to be. Do not continue to address yourself or let others address you as your former self, the lord says, “you shall not be called Jacob anymore!” let everyone around you know who God has called you to be “but Israel shall be your name!” says the Lord. Learn from Jacob and get back to Bethel. (the place of Covenant) For it is there where God will restore you and re-establish his covenant with you. Like Jacob you have struggled but have also prevailed! Fight for it, your struggles, pains and tears have not been in vain, (For pain is just a sign that you are about to give birth) there is so much inside of you! There lies a King inside of you! “Nations shall proceed from you” (verse 11) says The lord. Be fruitful and multiply! Be Blessed and remember “The older shall serve the younger.” (your sinful nature shall serve your Godly nature)
